Responsibilities

Provides direct patient care to pediatric through geriatric patient populations. Addresses the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care related to the surgical environment. Communicates with surgeon and anesthesiologist continuously and as needed about patient condition. Assists with the maintenance of surgical equipment and inventory. Participates in performance improvement activities. Assesses operating room for equipment functioning and readiness, obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs of surgical operating team are met. Monitors, positions and assists patient during procedure. Is responsible for assuring patient safety and security through surveillance, adherence to policy and procedure and active participation in environmental and procedural improvement. EXPERIENCE A MUST.

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:

  • Approaches patient in a kind, gentle and friendly manner.
  • Responds to patient's inappropriate behavior in a therapeutic manner.
  • Takes appropriate actions and documents in response to manifested anxiety or distress.
  • Gives patient explanations and verbal reassurances consistently
  • Adapts nursing procedures to meet the needs for treatment of individual pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Identifies physical symptoms and changes and takes appropriate actions in a timely manner.
  • Directs and assists in maintenance and handling of special equipment and instruments.
  • Observes behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications, takes Appropriate actions and documents.
  • Adjusts expectations of patient behavior and acts according to the effect medication has on a patient.
  • Positions patient safely, pads and protects bony prominences. Preps and drapes patient correctly for all procedures.
  • Carries out medical and surgical asepsis during all procedures. Demonstrates competence in preparing and cleaning OR suites before and between cases and after terminal case, based on patient's class.
  • Carries out established techniques for safe administration of medications and parenteral fluids, as per policy and procedure.
  • Coordinates and supervises patient care, provides patient and family with teaching and education as necessary.
  • Protects patient's sensitivities and right to privacy.

Demonstrates Commitment to Patient Safety:

  • Complies with all ProHEALTH policies related to patient safety and infection control in meeting job requirements
  • Participates in the identification of unsafe conditions or procedures through surveillance and reporting to appropriate superiors
  • Responds appropriately to the contributions and concerns of others regarding safety
  • Seeks to involve the patient as an active participant in his or her care and encourages questions by the patient and family

Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate Degree (BS) preferred
  • Current State of New York Registered Nurse licensure.
  • Two (2) years related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Current BCLS and ACLS certification of Basic EKG or Arrhythmia Identification Certification.; preferred.
  • Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual educational requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, Facility procedures and standards.
  • Wears identification badge while on duty.
  • Actively participates in department's PI activities.
  • Ensures confidentiality of patient's records.
  • Attends committee, PI and management meetings.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the Facility
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.

USD $33.00/Hr. USD $50.00/Hr.
